marsha-chicken-basket-brown
Marsha Chicken Basket - Brown

Description

Our Marsha basket is a woven fern and PVC basket in the shape of a chicken, with a raised head at one end, a spiky comb, a pointed beak and a small round eye, and a woven wing folded along its side. Behind the head sits an open oval body, 38cm long, 27cm wide and 18cm tall, roomy enough for folded tea towels or a small pile of post without taking over a worktop. The brown weave runs all the way round, broken by a contrasting weave across the breast and the front of the wing. At 0.13KG it weighs next to nothing, so it lifts from shelf to table with one hand.

The kitchen is where it looks most at home: on a dresser shelf, a deep windowsill or the end of a worktop, holding tea towels, napkins, cloths or the odds and ends that gather by the back door. It is listed as not food safe, so we keep it for things rather than anything you eat. Away from the kitchen it suits a hallway console for gloves, keys and letters, a sideboard as a cheerful decorative piece, or a craft shelf with balls of wool and knitting needles tucked inside. It will please anyone who likes a country kitchen, a farmhouse look or folk-style woven pieces with a bit of humour.

The body is woven from strands worked over upright stakes, finished with a twisted rim around the top and a twisted edge around the base. The head, comb and wing are woven in the same way as the body, so the chicken reads as one piece. Fern is a natural plant fibre, and natural fibres vary a little from strand to strand, which gives the weave its texture. For styling, turn the head out towards the room on an open shelf so the bird greets whoever walks in.

Specification

Width

27cm

Length

38cm

Height

18cm

Material

Fern, PVC

Colour

Brown

Weight

0.13KG

Frequently Asked

What is the Marsha basket made of?

It is made from fern and PVC, woven over upright stakes, with the head, comb and wing woven in the same way as the body.

How big is the basket?

It is 38cm long, 27cm wide and 18cm tall, with an open oval body roomy enough for folded tea towels, napkins or gloves.

Is the basket food safe?

No. It is listed as not food safe, so we suggest it for tea towels, napkins, keys, post or balls of wool rather than anything to eat.

How heavy is it?

It weighs 0.13KG, so it is easy to lift down from a shelf with one hand and carry from room to room.

What colour is it?

It is brown, with a contrasting weave across the chicken's breast and the front of its wing that picks out the shape of the bird.
