The whole surface is punched with small dots set in close rows, so the metal reads as texture rather than as a smooth skin, and a seam runs right round the widest point where the two halves meet. The finish is antique brass, darker in the punched hollows and brighter on the ground between them. A brass collar sits on the neck with a black lampholder above it, and the cord is black fabric.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 4.44kg it is heavy for its size, which is what a wide low base needs to stay put under a shade, and the 27cm width carries a broad shade better than a narrow one. It suits a side table or a sideboard where the base is seen at close range and the punching is worth seeing.
