The rods curve out from the base and back in towards the top, so the whole piece reads as a loose globe, and the metal is a soft sand colour that sits easily beside wood, linen and stone. It stands 20.7cm tall and measures 23.7cm in diameter, a little wider than it is high, which keeps it low and settled on a table. At 1.4KG it has a pleasing weight in the hand, so it feels solid rather than flimsy.

We see it as an indoor piece for the places where you gather in the evening: the middle of a dining table, a sideboard, a mantelpiece or a coffee table. With a candle burning in the glass, the rods break the light into a soft pattern of lines and shadow, which gives a room a warm, relaxed feel. Unlit, the cage still looks good as a sculptural object, so it earns its place by day as well as by night. The neutral colour suits a calm, natural scheme, and it works just as well in a more traditional room where brass and dark wood lead the way.

The lantern pairs metal and glass. The glass cylinder sits at the centre of the cage, where it holds your candle and shelters the flame from draughts, which is the whole point of a hurricane lantern. Choose a candle that sits comfortably inside the glass with room around it. For care, dust the rods with a soft dry brush or cloth, and wipe the glass with a soft cloth once the candle is out and the glass has cooled. Glass shows soot and wax readily, so a quick wipe every few evenings keeps it clear and bright.

Specification

Material

Metal, Glass

Height

20.7cm

Diameter

23.7cm

Weight

1.4KG

Frequently Asked

Can the Losmora lantern go outdoors?

We recommend it as an indoor piece, at home on a dining table, sideboard, mantelpiece or shelf, away from rain and damp.

How big is the hurricane lantern?

It stands 20.7cm tall and measures 23.7cm in diameter, so it is slightly wider than it is tall and sits low on a table.

What material is the lantern?

The lantern pairs metal and glass: an open cage of fine metal rods surrounds a clear glass cylinder that holds the candle.

What colour is the metal cage?

The metal cage is a soft sand colour, a warm neutral that suits natural materials, while the glass cylinder inside is clear.

How heavy is the lantern?

It weighs 1.4KG, which gives it a reassuring, solid feel on a table or mantelpiece without being awkward to move.

How should I clean the lantern?

Dust the metal rods with a soft dry brush or cloth, and wipe the glass with a soft cloth once the candle is out and the glass has cooled.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0729/8993/3835/files/losmora-metal-hurricane-lantern-clear.jpg?v=1792452182
