Staggering the drops also suits a hallway with height to play with, or a landing that is seen from below as well as from the floor above. With suitable lamps and a dimmer fitted it will dim, which is worth planning for if the room doubles as somewhere to eat and somewhere to sit afterwards. We tend to reach for clear filament LED lamps here, so the smoke tint stays legible against the light.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe metalwork is polished to a bright mirror and the smoke tint runs consistently across the shades, so the fitting holds one tone whether it is lit or switched off. Chrome shows fingermarks more readily than most finishes, so a soft cloth over the plate and the flex heads now and then keeps it looking crisp, while the shades want nothing more than dusting, done with the power off and the lamps cold.
