The upper half carries a copper finish that is opaque and heavily pitted, and it stops in a clear horizontal line about halfway down. Below that line the glass is translucent smoked gold and is carried all over by a fine web of fractures.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLit, the flame sits behind the lower half, so the light comes through the fractured glass and the copper band above stays dark. Sixteen centimetres across leaves a tealight a great deal of room, and the holder is wide enough to read as an object on a sideboard with nothing in it. Waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is mouth-blown into the mould, and the copper is applied to the upper part afterwards.
