There is no backing board: whatever goes in is held between two panes, so the wall shows through around it. The brass is soldered on by hand and the weld marks are left visible at the joins. Two small rings at the top corners carry the tie, which is knotted through them and cut from a different length of sari each time.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe aperture is 8 x 10 inches. The same frame is made with 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 inch apertures, and each of the three sizes comes portrait and landscape, so a wall can be built up from one shape in several sizes. They hang together at staggered heights with portrait and landscape mixed. Each one hangs from a single hook or pin, since the tie carries the whole frame. This is the portrait, and it is sold singly.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe frame is glass and brass in an antique brass finish, and it is 1cm deep. Because both faces are glass it holds anything worth seeing from either side, which is why the Kiko takes postcards, tickets and pressed paper as readily as photographs. The sari ties are recycled and each is cut from a different fabric, so no two ties are alike.
