The fabric is off white and stretched over a frame, and fine brown lines run through it, straight down the cap and then following the curve of the bell as a set of nested arches that meet at a point. The lower edge is left unhemmed, with the threads of the weave showing along it. It is 60cm tall and 45cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFabric over a frame does not block light, it slows it. Switched on, the whole shade lights from the inside, the weave comes up as a grain across it and the arches stand out as darker lines, and the bulb reads as a bright area rather than as a point. Below the open rim the light falls straight down. At 60cm tall this is a shade to hang where it is seen at close range, over a bed or beside a chair in a sitting room.
