The dome rises almost straight from the rim, turns over a soft shoulder and finishes in a solid glass knob drawn out on a short neck. The glass is plain and smooth, with a faint waver in it that shows where the light runs across the surface. The marble plate is flat with a squared edge, and the dome stands inside its rim so a band of stone is left showing all the way round.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA plate 30.5cm across takes a whole cake, a round of cheese with a knife beside it, or a morning of baking stacked up. What is on the plate stays covered and in sight at once. Marble is cold and stays cold, and the base works as a platter on its own for cakes or cheese.
