jenkins-stoneware-vase-20cm-multi
Jenkins Stoneware Vase 20cm - Multi

Description

This is a vase shaped like a slender jug, made from 100% stoneware and finished in a multicoloured glaze that runs in thick, glossy drips from the neck down over the body. A tall handle loops up from the shoulder and rises just past the pinched lip, so the outline reads more like an old country jug than a plain vase. It stands 20cm tall and 8cm across and weighs 0.4KG, a small, slim size that suits a few stems rather than a full bunch.

Its narrow footprint makes it easy to place wherever space is tight: a bookshelf, a windowsill, the corner of a desk or the end of a mantelpiece. We like it with two or three dried seed heads or grasses, which leave the handle and the glaze to do the talking, but it holds its own just as well as an ornament with nothing in it. It sits happily in a living room, a hallway or a bedroom, and it makes a thoughtful present for someone who loves characterful ceramics but has little shelf space to spare.

Stoneware is fired at high temperatures, which makes it dense and hard-wearing, and a glaze gives its surface a glassy shine. Here the glaze runs freely, so the drips gather differently on each side, and the body is gently uneven rather than perfectly symmetrical, which gives the vase a relaxed, crafted feel. The handle curves in one smooth loop from the shoulder to the rim, and its top sits a little higher than the lip. For the best effect, set it slightly off-centre beside a short stack of books or a small bowl, and turn it until the side you prefer faces the room.

Specification

Height

20cm

Diameter

8cm

Material

100% Stoneware

Colour

Multi

Weight

0.4KG

Frequently Asked

How big is the vase?

It stands 20cm tall and 8cm across and weighs 0.4KG, a slim size that suits a few stems on a shelf or windowsill.

What material is the vase?

It is made from 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, finished in a glossy multicoloured glaze that runs in drips from the neck.

Will it hold a large bouquet?

Not really.
