indigo-drop-ceramic-side-plate-cream-indigo
Indigo Drop Ceramic Side Plate - Cream & Indigo

Description

A side plate 22.5cm across and 2cm deep, made in white clay and glazed cream, with a band of indigo drops painted in concentric rings around the rim. The band takes a greater share of the face than it does on the 28cm dinner plate, so the pattern reads stronger at the smaller size. Each drop is laid on by hand, and both the size and the spacing shift around the circle.

Twenty two and a half centimetres is a side plate: bread beside a bowl, a slice of cake, cheese at the end of a meal. At 2cm it has a rim rather than a well, so it stacks flat under a dinner plate and takes little height in a cupboard. It is food safe and it goes in the dishwasher, so it belongs in daily use rather than behind glass.

The body is white clay and the drops are a water based paint, fired under a glaze. Every piece is shaped and painted by hand in Vietnam, which is why no two plates carry the drops in quite the same places. The 28cm dinner plate runs alongside it, with cereal bowls, jugs, a teapot and a twelve piece set in the same painted pattern.

Specification

Height

2cm

Diameter

22.5cm

Material

White Clay & Water Based Paint

Colour

Cream & Indigo

Finish

Glazed

Capacity

150ml

Dishwasher Safe

Yes

Food Safe

Yes

Weight

0.42kg

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

22.5cm across and 2cm deep.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, and it is food safe.

How does it compare with the dinner plate?

22.5cm across against 28cm, and the band of drops takes a greater share of the face.

Is the pattern the same on every plate?

No. Each drop is painted by hand, so the size and the spacing vary from plate to plate.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after every use to prevent staining, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak.
