The ring of plain glaze around them catches whatever comes off.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRubbed across the ridges, a clove of garlic or a knob of ginger comes off as a paste rather than in shreds, and it gathers in the well instead of having to be dug out of a box grater. At 11.5cm it serves as a small dish on its own as well, for mixing oils, spices or a paste.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe body is ceramic and it is food safe. Each piece is shaped by hand in Vietnam and then painted, so the drops around the rim sit at their own spacing on every one and the ridges come out of the mould a little differently each time.
