ilsa-seagrass-placemat-natural
Ilsa Seagrass Placemat - Natural

Description

This is a round placemat in 100% seagrass, 38cm across, in the fibre's natural colour. Seagrass is a firm, grassy plant fibre, and here it is coiled in tight rounds from a small centre outwards, so the surface reads as a run of rings, like the grain of a cut log. Around the edge the fibre ends are left long and laid at an angle, giving a fringe that sweeps round the whole circle instead of a neat hem. At 0.208KG it is light enough to lift with one hand and carry from table to shelf without a second thought.

Its first place is the table. Laid at each seat on a scrubbed wooden kitchen table or a dining table, it gives a soft, textured round under your tableware and marks out every place without the formality of a cloth; at 38cm across, each one is a generous circle. Away from the table it earns its keep as decoration too. Leaned against the wall at the back of a kitchen shelf, behind glass jars and small baskets, its rings and fringe add texture to a wall of open storage. It settles easily into a room that already has rattan, cane or wicker in it, and it suits anyone who likes a relaxed, natural look at home.

The construction is plain to see: seagrass coiled round and round, with the fringe formed from the fibre ends. Because seagrass is a natural plant fibre, it varies a little in tone and thickness from strand to strand, so no two mats look quite alike, and that variation is part of the appeal on a table laid with several. For styling, lay a run of them along a wooden table, or put a single mat at the centre under a vase of dried grasses, and leave room for the fringe to show past the edge of whatever sits on it.

Specification

Diameter

38cm

Material

100% Seagrass

Colour

Natural

Weight

0.208KG

Frequently Asked

What is the placemat made of?

It is made from 100% seagrass, a natural plant fibre, coiled in rounds from the centre outwards and finished with a fringe of fibre ends.

How big is it?

It is 38cm across, a round mat that gives a generous circle at each place on the table, with the fringe sweeping round its edge.

How heavy is it?

It weighs 0.208KG, so it is light and easy to lift, move between the table and a shelf, or put away in a drawer.

Is this a single placemat?

Yes, the listing is for one round placemat, so for a full table we suggest ordering one for each place you want to lay.

Can I use it as decoration?

Yes.
