A wide warm grey cone with straight sides and a sharp open rim, hung from a short length of polished brass tube that runs up into a plain black flex. The cone is shallow for its width and the brass above it is bare and slim, so the two read as a simple line and a broad triangle. The inside of the cone is lined in a pale cream, which shows as a bright ring once you are under it. The grey is a flat chalky matt with no shine at all. Nothing else interrupts the drop. It measures 40cm across and 27.5cm tall, in metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
