A small black cone hanging point down from a slim brass collar, with a plain black flex running straight up from it. The cone is shallow and its sides are perfectly straight, meeting the rim at a sharp edge rather than curving in. The inside is lined in brass, so the mouth reads warm and bright against the matt black outside, and the contrast only shows once you are under it. The brass collar is a short cylinder a little narrower than the top of the cone, and nothing else interrupts the drop. The whole fitting is small enough to hang in a run without crowding. It measures 12cm across and 16cm tall, in metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA shade this small works better in a run of two or three over an island than alone in the middle of a ceiling, where it reads as an accent rather than the main light. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
