A cylinder of brushed aluminium with a deeply knurled body, the cross-hatch running the full height so the whole surface reads as texture rather than as a smooth tube. A flat cap closes the top and a short tapered cone rises from its centre where the flex enters. Two turned bands break the knurling near the foot, one narrow and one wider, with the skirt below them knurled again. The metal is a cool bright silver with a satin rather than mirror finish. Nothing is polished and there is no shade ring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is the part everything else is built around: a shade goes over it, a flex runs into it, and the lamp you choose sets how the light reads. It is a part rather than a finished fitting, so it is bought alongside whatever it is going to carry or connect to rather than on its own.
