ginnie-advent-calendar-brown
Ginnie Advent Calendar - Brown

Description

This advent calendar is a little gingerbread house, 22cm long, 20cm wide and 27.5cm tall, with a warm brown hand-painted finish. It is made of 90% MDF and 10% plywood, and its windows, front door and roof dormers are numbered compartments, so the house does the counting. The first four doors sit on the front, a side wall and both roof slopes carry more, and the numbers run up to 24 on the back. Small round knobs pull the drawers open, and the dormers lift up from the roof.

It is small enough for a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the end of a sideboard, and tall enough to be seen across the room. It suits a household that likes a daily ritual in the run-up to Christmas: one door each morning, one little surprise behind it. The compartments are small, so think tiny toys, folded notes, hair clips or a miniature tree ornament. Once the countdown is over the drawers are empty again, so the house packs away with the decorations to be filled afresh next year.

The finish is painted by hand, and hand painting always leaves small differences from one piece to the next, so the lines and dots on yours are its own. The detailing is generous: scalloped icing along the eaves and base, scale-like tiles across the roof, peppermint swirls beside the windows and a candy-cane frame round the front door, with a gingerbread man and a little tree standing proud of the front wall. At 1.65KG it has a reassuring weight for its size. MDF does not take kindly to water, so keep it dry and dust it with a soft cloth. For styling, give it a clear spot with a sprig of greenery beside it, and turn it as the weeks pass so the next doors face the room.

Specification

Width

20cm

Length

22cm

Height

27.5cm

Material

90% MDF, 10% Plywood

Colour

Brown

Finish

Handpaint

Weight

1.65KG

Frequently Asked

What is the advent calendar made of?

It is made of 90% MDF and 10% plywood, and the brown finish is painted by hand.

How big is the gingerbread house?

It is 22cm long, 20cm wide and 27.5cm tall, and it weighs 1.65KG, so it sits comfortably on a mantelpiece, windowsill or sideboard.

Where are the numbered doors?

The first four doors are on the front.
