A band of etching is cut by hand around the edge, and because the cut goes through to lighter wood beneath it the band reads as a second tone rather than as a pattern. The interior is left smooth.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eNine and a half centimetres of depth at 25.5cm across holds a salad for four, or nuts and olives for a table, and the steep sides keep what is in it from spreading. At 0.635kg it passes down a table easily. It is food safe.
