The sides are low and close to vertical and the base is flat and wide, so it holds like a dish rather than cupping like a bowl. A band of carved etching runs around the outside of the sides, cut by hand, and the inside is left plain for the grain.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThirty-five centimetres of flat base takes a whole tart, a round of bread, or cheese with the knives beside it, and the 5.5cm sides keep it all on the wood without hiding it.
