Its shape is what makes it: a narrow raised crown sits on a wide bell, and the bell flares out to a gently wavy rim that rises and dips as you walk round it. At 23cm across and 15cm tall it is a compact shade, wider than it is tall, and at 0.542KG it has the solid weight of stoneware rather than the lightness of fabric or paper.

A 23cm shade is sized for pendant use over a smaller space. It can hang low above a kitchen table, a stretch of worktop or a deep window sill, or in a line over a kitchen island where one wide shade would feel heavy. The grey sits well against painted wood panelling, white tongue and groove and pale timber shelving, and it suits a cottage kitchen, a farmhouse dining room or a quiet hallway equally well. It is a good choice for anyone who wants a ceramic shade with some character but nothing fussy, and it looks at home beside the glazed stoneware many people already keep on open shelves.

The shade is 100% stoneware. The glossy grey glaze covers the outer surface, and the rim is left as bare, unglazed clay, so you see the body of the material along the edge. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired clay, which is why the shade feels so substantial for its size. There is a small opening at the top of the crown. The shade is sold on its own, and the styling props shown, the cord and bulb among them, are not included. For styling, hang it low enough that the wavy rim sits close to eye level from a chair, where the glaze catches the light and the outline shows at its best.

Specification

Height

15cm

Diameter

23cm

Material

100% Stoneware

Colour

Grey

Weight

0.542KG

Frequently Asked

What is the lamp shade made of?

It is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired clay, finished with a glossy grey glaze and a bare, unglazed rim.

How big is the shade?

It measures 23cm across and 15cm tall.
