The bottom is closed by a flat opal diffuser with a brushed brass boss at its centre, and several lamps show through it as soft bright patches rather than one even glow. The drum is much wider than it is deep and its edges are square rather than rolled. It sits tight against the ceiling. The black is a flat matt tone with no shine on it.
