The face and the rim are glazed in a soft off white that pools paler at the edge and greys slightly towards the centre, and the glaze is left to stop where it runs. Underneath, the clay is bare: a warm sandy terracotta that shows as a band all the way round beneath the rim and across the whole of the foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e27cm is a full dinner plate, wide enough for a main course with the rim left clear, and the edge turns up enough to hold a sauce rather than let it run to the table. Stacked, it is the terracotta band between the plates that reads rather than the white. At 2.5cm they stack close, so a set of them takes little cupboard depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe plate is stoneware made from terracotta clay, glazed twice over the rim and the face with the mix adjusted so the glaze reacts in the kiln.
