dolly-sheep-water-hyacinth-basket-white
Dolly Sheep Water Hyacinth Basket - White

Description

Our Dolly basket is a round storage basket shaped as a sleepy sheep. The body is braided water hyacinth in white, and a woven face with two ears stands proud of the front, its closed eyes picked out in stitched lashes, while short woven legs lift the base off the floor. It measures 50cm across and 44cm tall, which makes it a floor basket rather than a shelf one, with room for a heap of soft toys or a folded throw. The materials are water hyacinth and cotton, and it weighs 2KG.

It belongs in a nursery, a child's bedroom or a playroom, where a basket with a face makes tidying up feel more like a game. At 2KG it is light enough to move from room to room, and the open top lets toys go in and come out without a lid to lift. The weave opens near the rim at the side to give a handhold. Beyond toys, it suits spare blankets by the sofa, dressing-up clothes, or a pile of picture books beside a reading chair, and it fits neatly into the corner of a room.

The finish is braided water hyacinth. Water hyacinth is a natural plant fibre, so its strands carry gentle shifts of tone and no two weaves come out exactly alike. The braiding is close and even, giving the body a firm, rounded shape that holds itself upright, and the face, ears and legs are worked in the same braid, so the whole sheep reads as one piece. For styling, set it on a wooden floor beside a low bed or a reading nook, sheep face turned into the room, with a knitted blanket folded over the rim.

Specification

Height

44cm

Diameter

50cm

Material

Water Hyacinth, Cotton

Colour

White

Finish

Braided water hyacinth

Weight

2KG

Frequently Asked

Which materials make up the basket?

The materials are water hyacinth and cotton, and the finish is braided water hyacinth, a natural plant fibre with a gently varied tone.

How big is it?

It is 50cm across and 44cm tall, a floor basket with room for a good heap of soft toys, blankets or dressing-up clothes.

How heavy is the basket?

It weighs 2KG, so it is light enough to move easily from room to room when it is time to tidy.

Does it come with a lid?

No. The top is open, so toys can be dropped in and taken out quickly, and the weave opens near the rim to give a handhold.

Where does it work best?

A nursery, child's bedroom or playroom suits it best, though it also works as a blanket basket beside a sofa or a home for books near a reading chair.

Will mine look exactly the same?

Water hyacinth is a natural plant fibre, so the tone of the strands and the braid vary a little, and no two baskets are exactly alike.
