A white sphere held in a short oak yoke that comes off a round white backplate, with a knurled white pivot screw on the outer face. The sphere is open at the front and that opening is lined in pale oak, so the wood reads on the inside of the shade as well as on the arm carrying it. The yoke is a flat strip of timber bent round the ball, and the screw through it is what lets the head swing and hold. A white braided flex leaves the top of the backplate in a loop and drops away, on show rather than chased into the wall. The plate is plain and matt with a single visible fixing. It measures 12cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA wall light earns its place by leaving the surface below it clear. Beside a bed where there is no room for a table lamp, over a work bench, up a stairwell or either side of a mirror, it gives directed light without taking up any space.
