A polished chrome sphere held on a short oak yoke that comes off a round chrome backplate, with a turned pivot screw on its outer face. The sphere is open at the front and that opening is lined in white, so the mouth reads bright against the mirror-bright metal. The yoke is a flat strip of pale timber pinched round the ball, and it is the one warm material on the fitting. A black braided flex loops over the top of the backplate and drops away on show. The chrome reflects whatever is around it, so the form reads by its highlights. It measures 12cm across and 10cm tall, in aluminium and wood.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA wall light earns its place by leaving the surface below it clear. Beside a bed where there is no room for a table lamp, over a work bench, up a stairwell or either side of a mirror, it gives directed light without taking up any space.
