The glass is clear but far from plain: air bubbles form through the wall while it is blown and tiny pieces of metal are worked in with them, so the whole body carries a scatter of dark flecks and clear bubbles held inside the glass. A brass collar caps the neck and carries a black lampholder with a shade ring, and a rust coloured cord runs from the base with a switch on it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is a base only: no shade and no bulb. Clear glass with something in it behaves differently from clear glass on its own: with a bulb behind it the flecks read as small dark points against the light and the bubbles as bright ones, so the base has depth instead of only transparency. At 45cm it stands well on a sideboard or a bedside table, and at 1.1kg it is light for its size.
