Its straight back edge sits against the threshold and its fringed curve faces the path. It is made from 100% coir, the coarse fibre that comes from the husk of the coconut, and the strands are twisted and braided into chunky rows you can feel underfoot. It measures 120cm long, 40cm wide and 3.5cm thick, and at 2.8KG it is a substantial mat with real depth rather than a thin, flat one.

Coir is stiff and wiry, so it brushes grit and mud from the soles of shoes before they reach the floor inside. This is an outdoor doormat, made for a front step, a porch, a covered deck or the door from the garden into a conservatory or garden room. At 120cm long it stretches across a wide entrance, and the curved outline softens all the straight lines of a doorway, steps and frame. It suits a cottage, a cabin or a city front door alike, and anyone who wants their entrance to feel welcoming before the door has even opened.

The finish is a woven fabric of braided coir, with loose fringing left along the curved edge for a soft, relaxed look. The maker's care marks say no tumble drying and no ironing, so keep it away from the dryer and the iron. Its 3.5cm thickness matters if your door opens outwards over the mat, so check the gap beneath the door before you lay it down. For styling, place the straight edge flush to the step and let the beige fibre sit beside terracotta pots, bamboo or rattan furniture and plenty of green planting, where its texture looks most at home.

Specification

Width

40cm

Length

120cm

Height

3.5cm

Material

100% Coir

Colour

Beige

Finish

Woven fabric

Drying

No

Ironing

No

Weight

2.8KG

Frequently Asked

What is the Cosmo doormat made of?

It is made from 100% coir, the coarse, wiry fibre from the husk of the coconut.
