A black shade that flares from a narrow shoulder out to a wide open rim in a shallow bell, held on a short polished chrome arm from a round black wall plate. A ring of small vent holes is punched round the shoulder, and the inside is lined in white so the mouth reads bright against the matt black outside. A knuckle behind the shade lets the head swing and tilt, and a small switch sits on the edge of the plate. The chrome arm is the only bright metal. The shade is wider than it is deep, so the beam spreads. It measures 15cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA wall light earns its place by leaving the surface below it clear. Beside a bed where there is no room for a table lamp, over a work bench, up a stairwell or either side of a mirror, it gives directed light without taking up any space.
