The boss is a plain tube with an open mouth; the side plate is a smooth disc with no fixings visible on it. The finish is a flat matt black with a faint grain to the casting, and the edge of the cylinder is softly rounded rather than square. Nothing is polished. It is a mounting part sized to sit tight against the ceiling and hide the outlet. The plastic cover lifts off where the canopy is being converted to carry more than one flex.
