A wide, very shallow opal glass dome, turned with a twisted flute so broad ribs sweep out from an off-centre crown in a slow spiral across the whole face. The glass is a warm grey-cream, thick and evenly diffusing, so the ribs show as bands of shading rather than as edges. A small brass fixing screw shows at the edge where it holds against the wall. It is much wider than it is deep and reads as a shell laid flat against the plaster. It measures 30cm across and 10cm tall, in glass and metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface.
