caia-stoneware-vase-9-5cm-white
Caia Stoneware Vase 9.5cm - White

Description

Caia is a small white stoneware vase with an opening that passes right through its body, so whatever stands behind it is framed in a ring of textured clay. The form is irregular and pebble-like rather than evenly turned, and the matt surface is pitted all over, a little like weathered rock. A narrow mouth at the top takes the stems. It measures 11cm long, 6cm wide and 9.5cm tall and weighs 0.198KG, which makes it a vase for one or two slender stems rather than a full bunch. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired clay with a pleasing, solid feel.

At 9.5cm tall it suits the spots where a larger vase would crowd things: a bedside table, a bookshelf, a windowsill or the corner of a desk. A single dried stem, a sprig of seed pods or a few grasses set in the mouth look intended rather than sparse, because the hole through the body holds the eye even when the vase is empty. Set it on a stack of books, line it up with other small ceramics along a mantelpiece, or give it a shelf of its own in a calm bedroom or a natural-toned living room.

The vase is 100% stoneware. Its white surface is as much a part of the design as the shape: open, cratered and uneven, it reads as stone rather than smooth pottery, and the irregular form means light falls differently across each ridge and hollow through the day. Because the opening runs the full depth of the body, the vase looks finished from front and back alike, so it can stand in the middle of a table where it is seen from both sides. For the strongest look, choose a stem that rises well clear of the rim and let it lean a little, so the line of the stem and the ring of the opening read together.

Specification

Width

6cm

Length

11cm

Height

9.5cm

Material

100% Stoneware

Colour

White

Weight

0.198KG

Frequently Asked

What material is the vase?

It is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired clay, finished in white with a matt, pitted surface that looks like weathered stone.

How big is it?

It is 11cm long, 6cm wide and 9.5cm tall and weighs 0.198KG, so it is a small vase for a shelf, sill or bedside table.

What kind of stems suit it?

Its narrow mouth suits one or two slender stems, such as a dried branch, a sprig of seed pods or a few grasses, rather than a full bouquet.

Is the opening a hole right through the vase?

Yes.
