A small smoked glass ball on a black cap, the tint deep enough to grey whatever is behind it and thin enough to show the coiled filament of the lamp inside. The glass is drawn in to a short neck at the top where a domed black cap covers the holder, and the black of the cap runs straight into a plain black flex. The ball is squat rather than perfectly round, a little wider than it is tall, and its lower edge is left open and unrimmed. Lit, the filament reads as a warm point through the smoke while the glass itself stays dark. It is small enough to hang in a run of two or three. It measures 14cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA shade this small works better in a run of two or three over an island than alone in the middle of a ceiling, where it reads as an accent rather than the main light. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it.
