bibiola-wavy-wall-shelf-multi
Bibiola Wavy Wall Shelf - Multi

Description

This is a multicoloured wall shelf with two tiers, joined at each end by a pair of wavy posts that swell and narrow along their length like a stack of beads. It measures 80cm long, 20cm wide and 26cm tall. That means it runs a good length along a wall while staying shallow, with the 20cm running from the wall outwards. It is made from 70% MDF and 30% firwood and painted with a water based paint. The posts are finished in a contrasting shade to the shelves, which is what gives the piece its multicoloured look. It weighs 4.95KG.

We see it in a child's bedroom or playroom, where two shelves give books and toys a place of their own at the height you choose to hang it. The long top shelf takes a row of books lying flat or a favourite storage tin. The lower shelf is open at the front and sides, so it is easy to reach into for a soft toy or the bedtime story of the week. Because it hangs on the wall rather than standing on the floor, it leaves floor space free for play. Its shape is cheerful without being childish, so it would sit just as happily in a hallway for keys and post, or above a desk for notebooks.

Two keyhole hanging plates sit at the back of the frame, under the top shelf, and these are what it hangs from. MDF gives a smooth, even surface that takes paint well, and fir is a softwood that is straightforward to work, which suits a painted piece like this. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, let the posts do the talking. Keep the top shelf to a few books and one taller object, and leave some wall either side so the wavy outline reads clearly against a plain background.

Specification

Width

80cm

Depth

20cm

Height

26cm

Material

70% MDF, 30% Firwood

Colour

Multi

Finish

Water based paint

Weight

4.95KG

Downloads

Assembly instructions (PDF)

Frequently Asked

What is the wavy wall shelf made of?

It is made from 70% MDF and 30% firwood and finished with a water based paint.
