A pleated ball of cream fabric, ribbed in vertical panels that run from a pale wooden ring at the top down round the belly to a matching ring at the bottom. The pleats read as soft folds rather than sharp creases, so the sphere looks gathered rather than built. The fabric is fine enough to glow right through, and the weave shows as a clear linen grain when the lamp is lit. Both rings are plain flat bands of light timber and are the only hard material on the fitting. The form is large and full and hangs on its own. It measures 50cm across and 46cm tall, in metal, fabric and oak wood.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
