At each end a low rail of three short spindles rises about 11cm above the seat, and the end posts and top rails rake outwards, which is what gives it the sleigh shape. The legs are square in section and rake out as well, and a long stretcher runs the length of the bench near the floor with two short cross pieces bracing it. The wood is pale, with the grain showing through the finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe seat sits 49cm from the floor, 125cm wide and 40cm deep, so it is long enough for two adults with room between them. That 40cm depth suits a hallway, where the bench takes a shallow run of wall, leaves room to pass and takes shoes underneath it.
