ambondrona-metal-hurricane-lantern-30cm-gold-black
Ambondrona Metal Hurricane Lantern 30cm - Gold & Black

Description

The Ambondrona is a metal hurricane lantern formed as one curled band of metal that winds into a loose spiral, standing 30cm tall and 18cm across. The curl is matt black on its back and lined with gold leaf on the inner face, so the warm metallic surface sits right behind the flame. A round base with a shallow holder at its foot takes a pillar candle, and the open side of the spiral lets you reach in and light the wick easily. It is a candle holder rather than an electric light, so there is nothing to plug in or switch.

We see it on a sideboard, a shelf or a console table in a living room, a dining room or a hallway, anywhere the evening calls for a softer glow than a ceiling light gives. The gold leaf catches the candlelight and throws it back into the room, while the black curl shades the flame from one side, so you can turn the open face towards the place you sit. At 18cm across it fits a narrow mantelpiece or the end of a dining table without crowding it, and the black and gold pairing sits happily beside dark wood, brass or plain white walls.

The surface comes in two parts: matt black on the back and a gold leaf lining with the gently crackled, uneven texture that leaf gives, so the highlights shift as the flame moves. Gold leaf is a very thin layer of metal, so dust it lightly with a soft, dry cloth rather than rubbing it or reaching for polish. Wax that drips into the base lifts more easily once it has hardened. Weighing 0.92KG, the lantern is light enough to carry from room to room as the evening goes.

Specification

Colour

Gold & Black

Material

Metal

Height

30cm

Diameter

18cm

Weight

0.92KG

Frequently Asked

What size is the hurricane lantern?

It stands 30cm tall and measures 18cm across, and it weighs 0.92KG, so it sits comfortably on a mantelpiece, sideboard or console table.

What material is it?

It is metal, curled into a spiral, with matt black on the back and a gold leaf lining on the inner face that reflects the candle's glow.

What kind of candle does it hold?

The round holder at its foot is shaped for a pillar candle, which stands upright within the curl so the gold leaf sits behind the flame.

Which rooms does it suit?

It suits a living room, dining room or hallway, anywhere a sideboard, mantelpiece or table could take a warm pool of candlelight in the evening.

How should I clean the gold leaf?

Gold leaf is a very thin layer of metal, so dust it lightly with a soft, dry cloth rather than rubbing it or using polish.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0729/8993/3835/files/ambondrona-metal-hurricane-lantern-30cm-gold-black.jpg?v=1792452536
