alice-in-wonderland-glazed-earthenware-serving-plate-blue
Alice in Wonderland Glazed Earthenware Serving Plate - Blue

Description

This earthenware serving plate brings the cast of Alice in Wonderland to the table in a soft blue glaze. Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit with his trumpet, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee stand in a line across the centre, drawn in white and deeper blue as if sketched straight from a storybook, with tiny butterflies fluttering between them. Beneath them runs the line "Start at the beginning and when you come to the end, stop", and a raised border of white roses and trailing leaves frames the whole scene. The plate is rectangular with gently rounded corners, measuring 30cm along its length and 16.3cm across, with a depth of 3.1cm.

At 30cm long, it is generous enough for a row of cakes, scones or sandwiches at afternoon tea, yet slim enough at 16.3cm across to run down the middle of a table without crowding the cups. It is just as much at home at a weekend brunch or holding a single slice of cake beside a pot of tea. Between uses, we like it propped on a plate stand on a dresser or kitchen shelf, where the characters and the rose border can be enjoyed every day, and its gentle blue sits happily alongside white and pastel tableware.

The plate is made from earthenware ceramic with a glazed finish, which gives the blue its soft sheen, and the white roses around the rim are raised, so you can feel them under your fingertips. To keep the illustrations looking their best, we suggest washing it gently by hand in warm soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth. Set it out with a teapot and cups in matching pastel shades, or give it as a charming gift for someone who knows the tale by heart; its flat shape makes it easy to wrap.

Specification

Material

Earthenware

Colour

Blue

Finish

Glazed

Size

30 x 16.3cm

Depth

3.1cm

Weight

0.512kg

Frequently Asked

How big is the Alice in Wonderland serving plate?

It measures 30cm along its length and 16.3cm across, with a depth of 3.1cm, which is a generous size for a row of cakes or sandwiches.

What is the plate made from?

It is made from earthenware ceramic with a glazed finish in blue.
