The upper half of the globe is a solid brass hood with a stepped collar where the arm meets it. The lower half is clear recycled glass, rippled and uneven across its surface so the light breaks up as it passes through. The brass is left mottled and marked rather than polished flat, and the backplate is fixed through two screws.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe globe is 20cm across, the fitting stands 25cm out from the wall and measures 30cm from the top of the backplate to the bottom of the glass, which is the scale of a front door or a porch rather than a path marker. It is rated IP44 and made for outdoor use, so it suits a doorway, a covered walkway or the wall beside a garden dining table. The solid hood closes the top of the globe, so the light falls forward and down onto the ground in front of it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe backplate, arm and hood are solid brass, hand forged in small batches down to the nuts and bolts. The globe is recycled glass, made from waste glass that is washed, crushed and melted down before it is blown or moulded. Left outside the brass will oxidise and darken over time rather than holding the tone it arrives in.
